For my Master’s Degree final Capstone Project, we collaborated with our project client, the Marketing leadership team at Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies (CPS), to develop a mobile application designed to enhance the CPS student experience.
We found that CPS students often struggle with accessing crucial resources, staying connected with peers and faculty, and feeling integrated into the Northeastern community, especially for those in hybrid or online programs. Our solution was to create a user-friendly platform that centralizes key resources, fosters community connections, and addresses challenges faced by CPS’s diverse, globally distributed student body.
The app design was informed by our extensive primary and secondary research, including surveys and interviews with students, advisors, and faculty. We identified key pain points like difficulties in accessing information, navigating academic requirements, and establishing a sense of community. To address these, we prioritized usability, cultural inclusivity, and some support features.
Our app ultimately included a variety of features aimed at streamlining administrative and academic processes, encouraging meaningful student connections, and providing tailored support for CPS’s career-focused and globally diverse students. It included features such as:
Interactive dashboard with access to important student resources.
A personalized calendar synced with academic deadlines.
AI-powered chatbot for instant answers to student questions.
A community forum and mentorship program to foster peer connections.
Customizable notifications for events, deadlines, and important updates.
An academic portal with direct access to advising and degree information.
